Avery Pond located in Preston, Connecticut is 25.7 acres and has been developed with homes on the western side.  The pond can be accessed by a state boat launch and has no outboard motor restrictions apply, although an 8 mph speed limit is enforced.

This pond supports dense growth of Potamogeton robbinsii across its entire bottom. However, no other submerged species were recorded during our September 2005 survey.  It appeared that other plants already had died back.  Nymphaea odorata grew in large stands in a cove on the eastern side of the pond and along the edges of the southern end.  Nuphar variegata was scattered through the Nymphaea odorata , and occurred in several small patches along the northeast shore of the pond.
