Announces
2005 HIGH SCHOOL ESSAY CONTEST
RULES: Essays must be typed and double-spaced, be at least 250 words but no more than 600 and post marked or emailed no later than April 4, 2005.

Essays should be mailed to:
The Connecticut Foundation for Open Government, c/o The Lakeville Journal, PO Box 1688, Lakeville, CT  06039 or emailed to publisher@lakevillejournal.com.
Winners will be announced by May 13, 2005.
Choose one of the following questions to answer:
1.) The percentage of young voters actually going to the polls to the polls to cast their votes has been declining in recent years.  Why do you think this is so and what steps would you recommend to increase voter participation?
2.) A recent survey found that only half of Americans believe that keeping church and state separate is important.  How important is it, and does it trump the other rights enumerated in the First and Second amendments to the U.S. Constitution?
3.) Is it Un-American to protest the policies of the American government on the Iraq War?
First Prize: $1000
Second Prize: $500 Third Prize: $300
Honorable Mentions: $50
The essays may include exhibits but they are not required.
