DEEP Announces Measures to Protect Shorebirds at Coastal Beaches and Wading Birds at Offshore Islands
Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) today announced that Charles Island in Milford and Duck Island in Westbrook will be closed to the public from now through September 9, 2019 to prevent disturbances to nesting birds.

Annual Wild Turkey Brood Survey
Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) invites residents to keep a tally of all sightings of hen turkeys and poults (young-of-the-year) from June 1 through August 31 as part of the Wildlife Division’s Annual Wild Turkey Brood Survey.

DEEP Completes 2019 Channel Catfish Stockings
Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) announced today that Channel Catfish, one of the most sought after freshwater game fish species in the country, were stocked into nineteen (19) water bodies located throughout Connecticut (see list of locations below) on Tuesday, May 21, 2019.

Grant Funds Available for Marine Pumpout Programs to Protect Waters of Long Island Sound
Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) today announced that it is seeking grant proposals from owners and operators of public or private marine facilities on Long Island Sound and Candlewood Lake for the installation of a new marine sewage disposal facility (MSDF); facilities with existing MSDFs in need of substantial repairs or upgrades; and from those seeking funding to operate new or existing MSDFs, including pumpout boats and central vacuum pumpout systems which are incorporated within the marina or boatyard dock system.

Governor Lamont Signs Order Directing State Agencies to Reduce Energy Consumption and Environmental Impacts
Governor Ned Lamont today announced that he has signed an executive order – his first since being sworn into office earlier this year – that directs executive branch state office buildings and vehicle fleets to become greener and more energy efficient through an expanded “Lead By Example” sustainability initiative aimed at reducing the state’s carbon footprint and reducing the cost of government operations.
