Gov. Malloy Announces Connecticut Has Deployed Additional Airmen and Supplies to Puerto Rico and St. Thomas for Hurricane Maria Relief Efforts
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the State of Connecticut has deployed a C-130H cargo plane and seven Airmen from the 103rd Airlift Wing of the Connecticut National Guard to help with Hurricane Maria response and relief efforts in Puerto Rico and St. Thomas. The unit, which departed from Bradley Air National Guard Base in East Granby this morning, includes C-130H pilots, crewmembers, loadmasters, and maintainers.

Gov. Malloy: Annual FBI Crime Data Shows Connecticut Saw Largest Decline of Violent Crime in Nation over Last Four Years
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today highlighted the release of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) annual state-by-state crime report for the 2016 calendar year, which shows that crime rates continue to decline in Connecticut, which has had the largest reduction in violent crime of any state in the nation over the last four years. Since Governor Malloy took office in 2011, overall crime in Connecticut has declined by 18 percent, including a 20 percent drop in violent crime. The FBI is reporting that overall crime in the state is at its lowest point since 1967.

Gov. Malloy: Republican Budget Significantly Reduces Funding for the State’s Most Struggling Schools, Ignoring Court Order
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today said that the biennial state budget that was introduced by legislative Republicans and adopted last week by the General Assembly significantly reduces – and in some cases completely eliminates – funding streams for the state’s highest need and lowest performing school districts, ignoring a court order to create a more equitable education aid funding system and putting into jeopardy ongoing efforts to close the achievement gap.

Gov. Malloy and State Officials Urge EPA to Act Favorably on Petition to Control Pollution Caused by Upwind States
Governor Dannel P. Malloy and other Connecticut officials are urging the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to approve a petition filed by the State of Connecticut along with eight other neighboring Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states to require nine upwind states located in the west and the south to reduce air pollution generated within their borders that is carried to states in the northeast by prevailing winds, causing public health issues for area residents and economic disincentives for the region’s businesses.
