Gov. Malloy and Connecticut United Way 211 Release Hurricane Resources Guides for Displaced Residents
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today in collaboration with Connecticut United Way 211 and the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection (DESPP) announced the release of Hurricane Resources Guides – in both English and Spanish – for those arriving from Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Gov. Malloy Announces State Begins Providing Reimbursements to Northeastern Connecticut Homeowners for Testing of Crumbling Foundations
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the state’s testing program for homeowners in northeastern Connecticut impacted or potentially impacted by the ongoing crumbling foundation problem has opened its application process and eligible homeowners can now begin applying to receive reimbursements for the testing of their homes. The state is making $5 million available to provide assistance related the costs of testing foundations for homeowners, which will better provide the state with data related to the scope of the situation while providing homeowners with another level of financial relief.

Gov. Malloy Announces $13.6 Million in Funding to Remediate and Revitalize Blighted Properties in Connecticut
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that $13.6 million in state funding will be awarded to 14 municipalities across Connecticut to assess, remediate and revitalize blighted properties in their communities – also known as “brownfields” – and put them back into productive use. The projects encompass 89 acres of redevelopment.

Gov. Malloy Announces ‘Q Bridge’ to be Lit Red, White, and Blue for Veterans Day
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge in New Haven – informally known as the Q Bridge – will be lit red, white, and blue on the nights of Friday, November 10 and Saturday, November 11, in observation of Veterans Day. Beacons capable of projecting light nearly six miles into the clear night sky will be lit until 1:00 a.m. during those nights.

Gov. Malloy Announces Enfield Correctional Institution to Close as Result of Declining Crime Rate and Prison Population
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that as a result of the continuing decline in the state’s crime rate and the resulting drop in the prison population, the Connecticut Department of Correction (DOC) will be closing the Enfield Correctional Institution in early 2018. The closure of the building, which currently holds around 700 offenders who will be transferred to other facilities, will save the state approximately $6.5 million in annual operating costs.

Gov. Malloy Announces Connecticut Has Deployed 13 State Troopers to Puerto Rico for Post-Hurricane Tour of Duty
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that Connecticut’s Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection (DESPP) has deployed 13 state troopers as part of Connecticut’s ongoing efforts to assist in Puerto Rico’s post-hurricane recovery efforts. The troopers, 12 of whom are fluent in Spanish, will be patrolling and providing security and traffic assistance in conjunction with the local police in Puerto Rico. The crew departed Bradley Airport early Monday morning.
