  • 5/25/2017 Gov. Malloy Urges Greater Public Awareness of State’s Safe Haven Law

    Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Department of Children and Families Commissioner (DCF) Joette Katz are urging for greater public awareness of the state’s Safe Haven law, which designates hospital emergency rooms as a location where newborn babies can be safely relinquished, no questions asked. The law protects parents from being prosecuted for abandonment and ensures the infant will be safe and receive adequate care. The state officials said that the abandonment of a baby in downtown Danbury this week reflects the need to grow greater public awareness of this law in order to prevent tragedy.

  • 3/29/2017 Gov. Malloy Proclaims 'Husky Weekend' in Connecticut to Honor the UConn Women's Basketball Team

    Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he is proclaiming Friday, March 31 through Sunday, April 2, 2017 as “Husky Weekend” in the State of Connecticut in recognition of the UConn women’s basketball team playing in the NCAA Final Four tournament on Friday night. This will be the team’s tenth consecutive appearance in the Final Four.

  • 3/8/2017 Gov. Malloy Activates State’s Severe Cold Weather Protocol from Friday through Monday

    Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that in anticipation of temperatures over the next couple of days that are forecast to be bitter cold with negative wind chill factors at times, he is activating the state’s Severe Cold Weather Protocol beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 10, 2017, and remaining in effect through 8:00 a.m. on Monday, March 13.

  • 5/9/2017 Gov. Malloy Signs Legislation Protecting LGBTQ Youth from the Destructive and Discredited Practice of Conversion Therapy

    Governor Dannel P. Malloy this evening signed into law legislation that will protect LGBTQ youth in the state from the destructive and discredited practice of conversion therapy. The so-called treatment, which seeks to change a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity, has been discredited by nearly every credible medical and psychiatric group in the country and oftentimes includes destructive practices that are harmful to children, such as electric shock therapy.

  • 5/7/2017 Gov. Malloy Announces $10.7 Million to Support the Development of Affordable Housing in Six Connecticut Communities

    Governor Dannel P. Malloy, Connecticut Department of Housing (DOH) Commissioner Evonne M. Klein, and Connecticut Housing Finance Authority (CHFA) Executive Director Karl Kilduff today announced that nearly $10.7 million in funding has been approved by the CHFA Board of Directors to support the development of seven affordable housing projects in six Connecticut communities. Funding comes through federal Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC) program, which is administered by CHFA.

  • 3/12/2017 Gov. Malloy Signs Civil Preparedness Emergency Ahead of Winter Storm, Activates Statewide Travel Ban Beginning at 5AM Tuesday

    Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he has signed an order proclaiming a civil preparedness emergency in the State of Connecticut ahead of the major winter storm that is expected to impact the state on Tuesday, March 14, 2017. With dangerous weather conditions anticipated that will last throughout the day, the Governor has also signed an order activating a statewide travel ban that will begin at 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday and remain in effect until further notice. In addition, the Governor is fully activating the state’s Emergency Operations Center starting at 5:00 a.m. He is also directing all nonessential first and second-shift state employees to not report to work on Tuesday.

  • 5/1/2017 Gov. Malloy Announces Six-Year High School Graduation Rate Reaches Historic High, Graduation Gaps Closing

    Governor Dannel P. Malloy and State Department of Education (SDE) Commissioner Dianna R. Wentzell today announced that the six-year high school graduation rate increased over four consecutive years, reaching an all-time high of 90.5 percent for the 2013-14 cohort. The release of the data comes on the heels of the announcement last month that the state reached an all-time high four-year graduation rate in 2016 of 87.4 percent – significantly higher than the national average of 83.2 percent.

  • 5/18/2017 Gov. Malloy Announces State Farm Named as Sponsor of Highway Assistance Motorist Patrol Program

    Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced a new sponsorship agreement between the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) and State Farm™ that will allow the department to continue the Connecticut Highway Assistance Motorist Patrol (CHAMP). The program, which will be renamed the “CTDOT State Farm Safety Patrol,” has been in operation for more than 20 years and enhances highway safety by proactively patrolling and assisting stranded motorists, and provides better traffic control at incident scenes to alleviate congestion and prevent secondary crashes.

  • 3/26/2017 Gov. Malloy Announces Opportunities to Remediate and Revitalize Brownfields in Connecticut

    Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD) is now accepting applications for its eleventh round of competitive grant funding for the state’s Brownfield Remediation Program, under which the state partners with local municipalities and economic development agencies to put blighted properties back into productive use. Under this round, a total of $4 million will be earmarked for remediation projects and $1 million will be reserved for assessment projects.

    Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he is nominating thirteen state residents to fill vacancies for judgeships on the Connecticut Superior Court. While these appointments represent only a fraction of the nearly forty vacancies on the Superior Court, these judges will provide critical judicial capacity in performing the essential duties of the court system.

  • 5/24/2017 Gov. Malloy Announces Suspension of All CTDOT Construction-Related Activity to Ease Travel During Memorial Day Weekend

    Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that all regular construction-related activity on Connecticut state roads and highways will be suspended beginning at 6:00 a.m. on Friday, May 26, 2017 and lasting through 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 30 in order to accommodate travelers during the busy Memorial Day holiday weekend. Only work of an emergency nature will be performed during this period.
