Gov. Malloy's Common Core Taskforce to Meet Wednesday
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the Educators’ Common Core Implementation Taskforce is scheduled to meet on Wednesday, May 21, at Cromwell High School, 1 Donald Harris Drive in Cromwell. The meeting will run from 4:30-6:30 p.m. and will be held in library.

Gov. Malloy: Starwood Hotels Worldwide Will Expand in Stamford and Create Jobs for Residents
Governor Dannel P. Malloy, joined by Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD) Commissioner Catherine Smith, Starwood executives and other state and local officials, today announced that Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. is expanding its global headquarters in Stamford. Starwood will be creating 340 new full-time jobs in the state, in addition to retaining its current workforce of 980 employees.

Gov. Malloy: Sherwood Island State Park Expected to Receive $3.1 Million for Major Improvements
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that $3.1 million to fund improvements at Sherwood Island State Park in Westport is expected to be approved at the next meeting of the state Bond Commission. The funding will allow for major renovations to the park’s main pavilion, among other upgrades.

Governor Dannel P. Malloy, joined by Commissioner of Education Stefan Pryor, today announced that Connecticut’s high school graduation rate increased for the fourth consecutive year and that several persistent graduation rate gaps are closing.

Gov. Malloy: Connecticut Leads the Nation on High School Assessment
Governor Dannel P. Malloy announced that Connecticut high school seniors lead the nation and are in a class of their own in reading, according to the results released today by the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP). In math, the Class of 2013 remained in the top tier along with seniors from only four other states.

Governor Dannel P. Malloy today praised the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) announcement that it has awarded six Connecticut companies contracts valued at $125,000 each to conduct feasibility studies that could lead to advances in space exploration and aerospace technology.

Gov. Malloy Applauds House Passage of Bill Eliminating Nearly 1,000 Pages of State Regulations
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today applauded the Connecticut House of Representatives for adopting legislation he introduced that will eliminate nearly a thousand pages of state regulations that have been identified as obsolete, duplicative, excessively burdensome, or otherwise ineffective or unnecessary, in a major effort to make Connecticut’s regulations more streamlined, readable and user-friendly for citizens, especially small businesses.
