Gov. Malloy Announces $15.1 Million in Grants to Assist Nonprofit Providers in Capital Improvement Projects
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that over $15.1 million in grants are being awarded to fifty nonprofit organizations throughout Connecticut as part of the state’s Nonprofit Grant Program, which assists organizations with the costs associated with one-time infrastructure improvements that upgrade the efficiency and effectiveness of the services provided by the agencies.

Gov. Malloy Signs Legislation Furthering the State’s Efforts to Combat the Opioid Crisis
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he has signed into law legislation that he introduced earlier this year and developed in cooperation with a number of lawmakers that is designed to further the state’s efforts to combat the opioid crisis. It builds upon a series of reforms that Governor Malloy has signed on the topic since taking office in 2011.

Gov. Malloy Directs Flags to Return to Full-Staff on Tuesday Evening
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that U.S. and state flags should return to full-staff at sunset on the evening of Tuesday, June 27, 2017. Flags have been flying at half-staff in the state in honor of U.S. Navy Sonar Technician 3rd Class Ngoc T. Truong Huynh of Oakville, who was among those who died on board the U.S.S. Fitzgerald in a collision in Japan on June 17. The U.S. Navy has scheduled a shipside memorial service to be held in Japan on Tuesday in his honor.

Gov. Malloy: Actuarial Analysis Affirms Billions in Taxpayer Dollars Will be Saved by Adopting Framework Reached With State Employee Unions
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today released a detailed savings analysis of the framework that his administration reached last month with the state’s employee unions, including independent actuarial analysis of its pension and healthcare provisions. The materials affirm that the proposed structural reforms to pension and benefit costs will result in billions in savings to the state, obtaining significant annual savings for taxpayers over each of the next twenty years. The analysis found the plan produces cumulative savings of $1.569 billion over fiscal years 2017 and 2018, nearly $5 billion in the first five years, and over $24 billion in savings over the next twenty years.

Gov. Malloy Applauds Final Passage of Legislation Authorizing the Testing of Autonomous Vehicles in Connecticut
Governor Dannel P. Malloy is applauding the final passage of legislation in the Connecticut General Assembly that will create a pilot program allowing manufacturers and fleet service providers to test fully autonomous vehicles in Connecticut. The legislation, which was adopted in the House of Representatives tonight in concurrence with the Senate and next moves to the Governor for his signature, establishes strict requirements for testing under the program and requires participating municipalities to enter into agreements with autonomous vehicle testers.

Gov. Malloy Announces UConn Board Chairman Larry McHugh to Depart Position
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that Lawrence D. McHugh, Chairman of the UConn Board of Trustees, will not serve another term after his current six-year term ends this summer. At the request of Governor Malloy, McHugh has agreed to continue serving in the role until a successor is nominated.

Gov. Malloy Reminds Residents That Atlantic Hurricane Season Begins June 1
Governor Dannel P. Malloy and state emergency management officials are reminding Connecticut residents that as the first day of the 2017 Atlantic Hurricane Season begins on June 1, it is always important to have preparations in place should any severe weather potentially impact the region. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30, with the principal threat period for Connecticut occurring from mid-August to mid-October.

Gov. Malloy Signs Legislation Reforming the State’s Pretrial Justice System to Help Break the Cycle of Crime and Poverty
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he has signed into law legislation he introduced and developed with a number of lawmakers and advocates that will create a major reform to the state’s methods of detention for people who have only been charged with a crime in order to continue efforts reducing the state’s historically low crime rates and provide solutions to challenges that discriminate against the poor. The legislation is Public Act 17-145, An Act Concerning Pretrial Justice Reform. It was adopted in both chambers of the General Assembly with broad, bipartisan support.
