Gov. Malloy and Emergency Management Officials Remind Residents That the Height of Hurricane Season Runs Mid-August through Mid-October
Governor Dannel P. Malloy and state emergency management officials are reminding Connecticut residents that as the height of the Atlantic Hurricane Season approaches, people should take needed steps to prepare for any type of severe weather that may impact the state. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30, with the principle threat period for Connecticut occurring between mid-August and mid-October.

Gov. Malloy Says States Acting to Address Climate Change by Strengthening RGGI Program

Malloy and Connecticut energy and environment officials today applauded a proposal by states participating in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) to further reduce carbon emissions from power plants and make other enhancements to the nation’s first market-based regulatory program to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman today announced that they are joining a coalition of leaders from across the country – governors, mayors, city and state elected officials, law enforcement professionals, faith and civic leaders – onto a new “We Are With Dreamers” statement, which calls on President Trump to preserve the successful Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program and for Congress to pass a standalone version of the bipartisan Dream Act. To date, over 1,860 leaders have signed onto the statement.

Gov. Malloy Directs Flags to Half-Staff in Honor of U.S. Navy Petty Officer Dustin Doyon
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he is directing U.S. and state flags in Connecticut to fly at half-staff beginning immediately in honor of U.S. Navy Electronics Technician 3rd Class Dustin Louis Doyon, 26, of Suffield, who was among those who died onboard the U.S.S. John S. McCain when it collided with a merchant vessel near Singapore.

Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman are congratulating Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) Vice Chairman John W. “Jack” Betkoski III on being named President of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC). In this position, Commissioner Betkoski will oversee the national organization that represents utility commissions responsible for regulating utilities that provide essential services such as energy, telecommunications, power, water, and transportation.

Gov. Malloy Directs Flags to Half-Staff Sunday in Recognition of National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that U.S. and state flags in Connecticut will be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Sunday, October 8, 2017, in recognition of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service, an annual observance honoring the sacrifices of fallen firefighters throughout the country. Accordingly, since no flag should fly higher than the U.S. flag, all other flags – including state, municipal, corporate, or otherwise – should also be lowered during this same duration of time.

Gov. Malloy Announces Connecticut Sending National Guard Airmen and Cargo Plane to Assist in Hurricane Harvey Response
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the State of Connecticut has deployed a C-130H cargo plane and eight Airmen from the 103rd Airlift Wing of the Connecticut National Guard to help with Hurricane Harvey response and recovery efforts in Texas. The unit, which departed from the Bradley Air National Guard Base in East Granby this afternoon, includes C-130H pilots, crewmembers, loadmasters, and maintainers.

Gov. Malloy Announces Revised Executive Order Resource Allocation Plan
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced revisions to the Executive Order Resource Allocation Plan, along with new municipal aid distributions associated with the plan. The changes accommodate the restoration of $40 million to private, nonprofit health and human service providers, prioritizing education funding to communities with the highest student needs by holding harmless the 30 Alliance Districts, and $60 million of other adjustments that must be made to ensure that the state lives within its limited means under the executive order.

Gov. Malloy Signs Opioid Legislation on Overdose Awareness Day
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today marked International Overdose Awareness Day by holding a ceremonial bill signing in Hartford, where he signed legislation that he introduced earlier this year and developed in cooperation with a number of lawmakers that is designed to further the state’s efforts combatting the opioid crisis. It builds upon a series of reforms that Governor Malloy signed on the topic since taking office in 2011.
