Gov. Malloy Directs Flags to Half-Staff Tuesday in Observance of the Funeral Services for U.S. Navy Petty Officer Dustin Doyon
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he is directing U.S. and state flags in Connecticut to be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Tuesday, September 12, 2017, in observation of the funeral services for U.S. Navy Electronics Technician 2nd Class Dustin Louis Doyon, which are scheduled to be held on that day in Suffield. Accordingly, since no flag should fly higher than the U.S. flag, all other flags – including state, municipal, corporate, or otherwise – should also be lowered during this same duration of time.

Gov. Malloy and Lt. Gov. Wyman Announce Impact of Graham-Cassidy Healthcare Bill on Connecticut
Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman today announced that according to a new analysis of the impact on Connecticut of the Graham-Cassidy bill – the latest version of Trumpcare – healthcare coverage for tens-of-thousands of the state’s residents could be threatened. Ultimately, as much as $2.2 billion in annual costs would be added to the state at full implementation in 2026, with total costs projected to reach almost $7 billion through fiscal year 2026.

Gov. Malloy Announces Connecticut Sending National Guard Airmen and Cargo Plane to Assist in Hurricane Irma Relief
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the State of Connecticut has deployed a C-130H cargo plane and eight Airmen from the 103rd Airlift Wing of the Connecticut National Guard to help with Hurricane Irma response and relief efforts in Puerto Rico. The unit, which departed from the Bradley Air National Guard Base in East Granby this morning, includes C-130H pilots, crewmembers, loadmasters, and maintainers.

Gov. Malloy Announces Connecticut Deployed More National Guard Resources to the Caribbean Saturday to Continue with Hurricane Maria Recovery
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the State of Connecticut on Saturday afternoon deployed a second C-130H cargo plane and seven additional Airmen from the 103rd Airlift Wing of the Connecticut National Guard to the Caribbean to continue assistance with Hurricane Maria recovery efforts. The unit, which departed from Bradley Air National Guard Base in East Granby, includes C-130H pilots, crewmembers, loadmasters, and maintainers.

Malloy Administration Issues Guidance to School Districts Regarding Enrollment of Displaced Children from Puerto Rico
Governor Dannel P. Malloy and State Department of Education Commissioner Dianna R. Wentzell today announced that they are sending guidance to every school superintendent in the state outlining suggested protocols to ensure that any student arriving from Puerto Rico, or any affected storm area, has immediate access to school and expedited connections to the services they may need. In the days since Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria brought devastation to the island, the administration has received a number of inquiries from superintendents and other school officials requesting information on how to supervise this potential situation.

Gov. Malloy: Connecticut Students Enrolling in Advanced Placement Courses at Significant Pace
Governor Dannel P. Malloy and State Department of Education Commissioner Dianna R. Wentzell today announced that Connecticut public school students have significantly increased their participation and performance on Advanced Placement (AP) exams, according to results published today by the College Board. The number of students who took at least one AP exam in 2016-17 rose to 28,961, an increase of 4.9 percent from 2015-16. Those students took 53,106 exams, an increase of 5.1 percent from the prior year. Of the exams taken, 36,404 exams achieved a score of three, four, or five, also an increase of 3.6 percent from 2015-16. These improvements were evidenced among students from all racial/ethnic backgrounds.

Gov. Malloy Directs Flags to Return to Full-Staff on Tuesday Evening
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that U.S. and state flags should return to full-staff at sunset on the evening of Tuesday, September 5, 2017. Flags have been flying at half-staff in the state in honor of U.S. Navy Petty Officer Dustin Doyon of Suffield, who was among those who died on board the U.S.S. John S. McCain when it collided with a merchant vessel off the coast of Singapore.

Gov. Malloy: Connecticut Labor Department Recovers $8.9 Million in Owed Wages for Workers
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the Connecticut Department of Labor (CTDOL) has recovered a record $8.9 million in unpaid wages for Connecticut workers during the fiscal year that ended June 30. This represents an increase of $1.8 million from the previous year.

Gov. Malloy Previews New Compromise Budget Proposal
Governor Dannel P. Malloy this afternoon released an overview of guiding principles of a new, compromise biennial budget proposal that he will offer to the members of the Connecticut General Assembly tomorrow. He also previewed several areas where the administration’s new proposal makes significant adjustments and compromises to reflect both the priorities of various legislative caucuses, as well as affected constituencies, particularly in the area of town aid.

Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman are inviting members of the public to attend the State of Connecticut’s 16th annual 9/11 Memorial Ceremony, honoring and celebrating the lives of those killed in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The ceremony will commence at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 7, 2017, at Sherwood Island State Park in Westport.
